Internationally acclaimed author and illustrator John Rocco will lead high school students through his creative process in this free workshop, sponsored by CultureWorks. Rocco's picture book Blackout, is the 2019 Big Read book for elementary schools. It received the prestigious Caldecott Honor, among other awards, and is a New York Times best seller. He has written and illustrated a host of other great books, including Rick Riordan's popular Percy Jackson series. Join us for an unforgettable afternoon with this creative genius!
Jazz and Jam Sessions at the Park Theatre

Are you a musical night owl? Do you like creating your own melodies and jamming out with other musicians? In this class, you’ll learn all about the jazz genre and collaborate with other students to create your own take on standard pieces. Instructor Abby Shepard, music major at Central Michigan University, will give you a musician’s perspective on what jazz is and introduce you to the concept of improvisation and jazz theory. Students with all level of jazz experience are welcome; there are aspects everyone can learn from, including history, improvisation, standards, and theory. You'll have the opportunity to build relationships with other student musicians in the area and have fun expressing yourself through music! Bring your own instrument. Cost is $60 (or whatever your family can afford).
For all students entering grades 6-12.
