Our Classes

Bugs, Birds, and Beasts // Wednesdays October 25- December 6

with Emily Christensen

Calendar Oct 25, 2017 at 3:45 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Come walk in the steps of early explorers, who used drawing and sketching as a way to better understand the wild world around them.  In this class, we’ll use pencils and pens to sketch the bugs, birds, and beasts at the Outdoor Discovery Center, and then play with ways to give our favorite creatures more character and expression.  We will be both indoors and outdoors, so dress for the weather!

Where?  We will meet at the Field Lab of the Outdoor Discovery Center.  4214 56th Street, Holland, Mi 49423.  The entrance and parking lot for the Field Lab is on Lincoln (56th St) just north of the main entrance.

Cost?  You Decide!  We simply ask that you pay whatever your family is able to offer.  The full cost is $100.

Character Design 101 // Thursdays October 26 - December 7

with Alysha Lach White

Calendar Oct 26, 2017 at 3:45 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Students will go through the process of designing a character for a specific project need. The process is very similar to actually working with an Art Director in the industry. Students will choose a synopsis of a story or need (either one provided or one they make up themselves) and then progress through the creative process from rough to final concept. If time allows, students may practice presenting their concept to the "Art Director". Creative liberty is encouraged regarding style, genre, and final concept.  Students with moderate drawing experience are recommended.

Where?  Class meets at the Treehuis conference room, located at 31 E 8th St, Suite 310.  It’s on the 3rd floor, above Loker Shoes.  Enter Loker’s from the 7th street parking lot, and take the stairs or elevator to the 3rd floor.

Cost?  You Decide!  We simply ask that you pay whatever your family is able to offer.  Full cost is $100
