Creative College Field Trip with Emily Christensen and Miranda Craig

Friday, October 10 from 8 AM to 8 PM

Grades 11-12 + A Parent // FREE

**This field trip is made possible through generous funding by the Community Foundation of Holland and Zeeland and is intended for students from low-income families or who would be the first generation to earn a 4-year college degree.

Start and end at CultureWorks Studio (24 W. 6th Street); CultureWorks will provide transportation to and from colleges.

Lunch and dinner will be provided.

Join us on a creative college field trip featuring the Visual and Media Arts program at GVSU and the Gwen Frostic School of Arts at WMU. We'll get a chance to tour both schools, learn about admissions for the different programs, and learn about financial aid opportunities. 

During dinner we'll have a chance to compare the schools and think about any follow up questions we might have after our visit. 

When registering, please be sure to note whether a parent will be attending the field trip with you or not so that we can plan accordingly.

In this class, we’ll explore the creative potential of office printers through various mediums such as photography, collage, writing, zinemaking, and more. Students will discover how printers can be a fun and accessible tool for making art. No previous experience in art is required, just curiosity!

Dive into the basics of graphic design programs and principles! In this nine week course you’ll learn how to apply design thought processes to your creative work, practice the foundations of logo creation, and expand your knowledge of what makes a great design by diving into its history and typographic theory.

Along with a few mini projects, we will use programs like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Figma to design a poster, re-make a cover for your favorite book, and create a stunning logo for your own personal brand. No experience required; just bring your passion and imagination!

En este curso de nueve semanas, aprenderás cómo aplicar procesos de pensamiento de diseño a tu trabajo creativo, practicarás los fundamentos de la creación de logotipos y ampliarás tu conocimiento de lo que hace que un diseño sea excelente al sumergirse en la historia y teoría tipográfica. Aprenderemos programas esenciales para diseñar un póster, volver a hacer la portada de tu libro favorito y crear un logotipo impresionante para tu propia marca personal. No se requiere experiencia; ¡Solo trae tu pasión e imaginación!

The best way to grow (or begin) as a songwriter is to find some friends on the same journey. We’ll think about imagery, rhyme, different writing techniques, and how to give feedback. When people have songs they feel good about we’ll practice performing and we’ll spend our final sessions recording together! This is a great opportunity to experiment for both spoken-word poets and songwriters alike.
